Why Reading Labels Isn't A Fad to Ignore
Are you using baby lotion for your little one's dry skin? Are you washing them in a shampoo in the their tub?
(Most people do. That's the point.)
Have you heard of quaternium-15? No, it isn't a long lost cousin of E.T.
It is a quaternary ammonium salt that acts as a formaldehyde in your shower products and lotions.
Read this article: HERE from Mercola.com
It discusses Johnson and Johnson, their baby product line, and the use of this quaternium-15 chemical.
What products is this in, you might be asking.
Here is a good list that shows the brand and products this ingredient is in.
Everything from Windex window wipes to Aveeno Body Lotions.
I know, right! Aveeno!
The HEALTHY looking brand. The ones with oatmeal and natural seeming commericals and advertisements. Aveeno uses formaldehyde type preservatives in the body lotions that you and many others put on themselves and their babies DAILY.
"So....?" You might be saying. "What does that mean for my baby-- I'm not feeding it to her."
Well, good question and a pointed topic for a GMO blog. But to stay on topic, I shall say this in mock response to your questions that I posed for you. (See what I did there, ha.)
"It means that because the body has many organs, the largest being the skin and the skin having many pores that act as straws into the bloodstream, you are doomed if you continue to use these types of products consistantly. Our bodies are trained to handle poisons and expell them. However, constant poison is a death sentence. Using preservatives such as quaternium-15 and the long list of others found in almost every product on the shelf-- is just plain dangerous."
There are options though-- so don't despair!
1. Make your own.
2. Buy from trusted source.
3. Buy local.
4. Give it up.
You can purchase wholesome, healthy indregient and make lotions, soaps, and sprays of all kinds for all purposes. It takes some cash, effort, and will power.
You can buy from farmer's markets and online companies that prove their purpose. I use Young Living and local farmer's market produce & oils and butters. You have to look for trusted labels of Non-GMO, Organic, and if at all possible, talk to the manufacturer yourself. This is why farmer's markets are great because you can talk to people who have made the prodcuts you are using to make sure you trust their ingredients.
Buying local also helps to keep your body used to natural environmental factors around your area and build up immunities while also keeping profits in the neighborhood to benefit the whole neighborhood.
Giving to large corporations benefits the 1%. We are trying to make more for the 99%.
If it is a product that doesn't have a healthy counterpart-- give it up. It is a toxin and shouldn't be used. Simple as that.
Sucks sometimes, but it has to happen.
